Standing Mirror N0 1

The standing mirrors come from an interest in the mirror as an object in its own right. For Standing Mirror N0 1, I wanted the frame to have the presence of a piece of furniture, with its own volume, profile and relationship to the room.

The tall arched, portal like form is built from carved in marble, with rounded and turned profiles compressed around the lower structure. The repetition thickens the frame and shifts the geometry from a simple arch into something more physical and architectural.

The marble base extends the frame into the floor, giving the piece a clear stance while allowing the reflection to remain the central opening.
