Development and Production

                                               Fragments

The studio develops furniture, objects and lighting as authorial design studies and bespoke commissions. Projects may begin with an existing design or an individual brief, from a single piece to a related group

of works developed for a particular space.

Material development can encompass marble and other natural stones, wood, metals, leather and textiles, individually or in combination. Material selection, surface finishes and the way different components meet are considered together, as part of the construction of each piece.

Production is developed case by case with specialist makers selected for the materials, scale and technical requirements of the work. Depending on the design, this may involve casting and metal fabrication, woodworking, stone shaping, upholstery and specialist finishes, including patinas. I use 3D modelling

and visual specifications to guide development, with technical review, samples and prototypes where needed to resolve construction and establish the final finish.

Commissioned works are made to order, with dimensions, materials and finishes refined for each project.

I remain directly involved throughout development, fabrication and finishing, reviewing the work with the makers against the agreed specifications. Particular attention is given to how the materials and components come together, carrying the character of the design through to the finished piece.
